Educational activities of the India Cements Ltd.

In order to further the cause of education, a cause very much dear to the founders of ICL, Shri Sankaralinga Iyer and Shri T.S. Narayanaswami, the Management of ICL, constituted an Educational Trust on 18th June 1958, with the object of establishing and running educational institutions like Polytechnics, Colleges, Technical High Schools and Higher & Lower Secondary Schools. These institutions were primarily conceived of for the benefit of the children and dependents of the employees of ICL. It was also ntended that the institutions should serve the community in the areas where the factories are situated.

The Company runs the following educational institutions at Sankarnagar, Sankaridurg,Chilamkur, Yerraguntla and Dalavoi where the cement factories are located.

Sankarnagar


1. Bala Vidyalaya - established in 1952.
2. Sankar Higher Secondary School - established in 1957.
3. Sankar Institute of Polytechnic - established in 1958.

Sankaridurg


1. Bala Vidyalaya - established in 1966.
2. Sankar Higher Secondary School - established in 1967.

Chilamkur


1. St. Anne's English Medium School, Narayanaswami Nagar - established in 1983.

Yerraguntla


1. CSI English Medium High School.

Dalavoi


1. Immaculate Matriculation School - established in 1997.

The Schools at Sankarnagar & Sankari have provided completely free education upto standard twelve.The Management has provided ample laboratory, library, reading room and building in all our schools. Ample Audio / Visual aids have also been provided in the schools. Screening of educational film shows are a regular feature. Project studies, variety of extra curricular activities and excursions are carefully programmed each year.

The Schools run by the Company have set up a consistently high standard of education and have routinely secured 90% to 100% results in the 10th Std. And 12th Std. Public examinations. The India Cements Limited have also introduced Educational Scholarship schemes based on economic criteria covering children of eligible employees in the Wage Board and Managerial category studying in Plus Two, Diploma and Professional courses. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee year of the Company, a Merit Scholarship Scheme has also been introduced to cover children of employees studying in class Vith to XII std. and students of the Polytechnic.

Further, the Company has also instituted prizes aggregating Rs.10,000/- and Rs.3,000/- per annum respectively for meritorious students of Sankar Institute of Polytechnic, Sankarnagar and other Polytechnics students in the state.

T.S.NARAYANASWAMI COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE


With the view to extend its vista in the area of higher education, the India Cements Ltd., established the India Cements Educational Society in 1994. To begin with this, Society has promoted a Self Financing Under Graduate Co-educational College of Arts and Science in memory of the Founder of India Cements Shri T.S. Narayanaswami during the Academic year 1996-97.

Situated in a picturesque 25 acre campus located at Navalur on the old Mahabalipuram Road near Chennai (Half-an-hour drive from Adyar junction) the College offers Postgraduate and Undergraduate courses and the Tuition Fees charged are detailed below :-

In order to extend its vista to higher education, the India Cements Educational Society (ICES) has set in motion the preliminary modalities to start an Engineering College at Navalur, near Chennai. The College to be known as the T.S. Narayanaswami College of Engineering and Technology will be offering the following Undergraduate Degree Courses in Engineering and Technology.

  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering

In response to our Application submitted to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a preliminary hearing was held on 6th April, 2000 at Chennai. The formalities requested by AICTE at the hearing were completed upon which a "Viability Certificate" was issued by AICTE. The Government of Tamilnadu also issued a "No Objection Certificate" for starting the College. However, due to infrastructural and other constraints, the commencement of the College has been postponed for the time being.
